Who are Less Than Half Members?

We are a community of culturally curious women from all industries. From tech to law, from stay-at-home moms to empty-nesters, most of us are not art professionals, but we share a passion for learning about, investing in, and connecting over art made by women artists.

We call ourselves the Matronage Movement for a reason— this work can’t be done alone. Every woman artist deserves to express herself and be taken seriously, from the overlooked painter wives of famous artists to your next door neighbor who throws pots on the weekend.

  • No. Many members begin with prints, works on paper, and editions. The curriculum includes smart entry points at a range of price levels.

  • Absolutely. Much of our programming is online, and the community connects across time zones. While the majority of our IRL events are currently in NYC, we will be coming to a city near you soon, and we encourage members to organize art outings with other members in their area!

  • Plan for a few hours per month for learning and community; more if you want to dive into events and opportunities.

  • Essentials gives you the curriculum, community, and momentum to start collecting with confidence. Emerging adds direct guidance from Hall and curated invitations, ideal if you’re actively buying.

  • Yes. You can upgrade from Essentials to Emerging when you’re ready.

  • Less Than Half’s programs are designed to elevate the profiles of women artists through visibility, educational content, and collector engagement. By fostering a community of informed and passionate collectors, we help ensure that women artists receive the recognition and financial support they deserve. Additionally, our Less Than Half Approved Gallery Program certifies galleries that represent 50% or more women artists and are committed to inclusion, encouraging the broader art world to adopt more equitable practices.

  • Yes, joining Less Than Half is perfect even if you’re not currently part of the art scene. The community is designed for individuals curious about engaging culturally and eager to learn about and support women artists.
