15%

of museum collections in the US feature work by women artists.

3%

of items for sale at art auctions are created by women.

70%

of MFA graduates are women, yet they remain underrepresented in the art world.

At the same time, many women who love art are told—explicitly or implicitly—that collecting requires a “good eye,” insider access, or vast resources.

Less Than Half exists to help women trust their taste, build knowledge over time, and participate in collecting as a meaningful, joyful, and impactful practice.

For generations, women artists have been overlooked, undervalued, and under-collected. It’s our mission — and yours — to change that.

“What’s the best thing about Less Than Half? Having a group of women where I can be like “is this normal?!” from stupid questions to thinking creatively about art as an asset class not only for enhancing your own wealth, but enhancing community wealth, however you define that.”

“I came back from my first Less Than Half Event feeling super inspired. I looked around my apartment and said, wow, there’s a lot of dudes in here. I consider myself a pretty like hardcore supporter of women in so many facets of my life, especially in my career. To look around and see what was around me and realize that wasn't necessarily who I was giving those dollars to, just really opened my eyes to it. It’s just been an awesome journey getting to learn from Hall and everyone involved. Being a matron makes you just look at things with that different lens.”

“We call ourselves the Matronage Movement for a reason— this work can’t be done alone. Every woman artist deserves to express herself and be taken seriously, from the overlooked painter wives of famous artists to your next door neighbor who throws pots on the weekend. We’re so looking forward to welcoming our new cohort of matrons— I hope to see you soon!”

Everything you need to know

  • Doors are open now for the March 2026 cohort! Enrollment closes at the end of March — once it's closed, you'll need to join the waitlist for the next cohort later in the year.

  • Yes. To keep our community intimate, we are only welcoming 50 new matrons this month. Spots are taken on a first come first served basis.

  • No, we don’t offer mid-cohort entry for the Essentials tier.

The cohort model is designed so members begin the experience together, build shared context, and move through the early stages of learning at the same pace. If you miss an intake, we recommend joining the waitlist for the next cohort.

  • Absolutely! We welcome matrons at every stage of their art journey. All you need is enthusiasm to learn more about collecting art by women artists (yes — that includes buying pieces from Etsy and Instagram!).

If you enjoy a Saturday afternoon trip to the Met (or your local museum), but hesitate about how to go further, this is for you.

  • Over 12 months, the LTH curriculum takes you through the whole process of collecting art by women artists. From naming your own taste and introducing you to work you love, to the practicalities of acquiring new pieces and building your collection as a matron of the arts.

Our online curriculum includes live webinars each month and you can access all content via our online library.

  • Absolutely. Most of our programming for the Essentials tier is online, and we have members from around the world.

While the majority of our IRL events are currently in NYC, we will be coming to a city near you soon, and we encourage members to organize art outings with other members in their area!

  • Once you have signed up you will receive an email with all the next steps for new members including an invite to our community Art Circle WhatsApp and your login details to our learning platform Thinkific where you’ll be able to browse our full content library.

We will host an onboarding call for the whole new cohort during the first week of April.

  • All Essentials content is available on demand, so you can engage at a pace that works for you. The cohort structure provides a shared starting point and community context, but all content is also available on demand via our online education platform.

  • Plan for a few hours per month for learning and community; more if you want to dive into events and opportunities. Our members curate their involvement to suit their lifestyle.

  • Less Than Half’s programs are designed to elevate the profiles of women artists through visibility, educational content, and collector engagement. By fostering a community of informed and passionate collectors, we help ensure that women artists receive the recognition and financial support they deserve. Additionally, our Less Than Half Approved Gallery Program certifies galleries that represent 50% or more women artists and are committed to inclusion, encouraging the broader art world to adopt more equitable practices.
